My Key Takeaways from book ' Emotional Agility' by Susan David
The goal of this book is to help you become more aware of your emotions, to learn to accept them & then to flourish by increasing your emotional agility.
Emotional Agility is about
It's about choosing how you will respond to your emotional warming system.
Emotional Agility is a process that allows you to be in the moment , changing or maintaining your behaviors so that you can live in ways that align with your intentions & values.
The process isn't about ignoring difficult emotions & thoughts, it's about holding those emotions & thoughts loosely, facing them courageously and compassionately and then moving past them to make big things happen in your life.
The process of gaining emotional agility unfolds in 4 essential movement :
1) Showing up- means facing your thoughts,e
2) Stepping out non-judgmental space between our feelings & how we respond to them.
We can also identify difficult feelings as we are experiencing them & find more appropriate ways of reacting ( healthier ways of reacting for our well being like journal ling /writing it out or maybe even discussing with counselor rather than numbing emotions & feelings through alcohol drinking, smoking, binge watching TV etc.) Detached observation keeps our transient mental experiences from controlling us.
3)
4)
5) Moving On - The see saw principle complacent , but also not in so far over our heads that we are overwhelmed. We move to the edge of our ability when we incrementally advance ourselves beyond the level of our competence and comfort. Ideally, the advances are the kind of small, incremental tweaks as mentioned in the tiny tweaks principle.
I will keep on adding to this blog..as i further progress through the book...
